this is somewhat sad … demf 08 is heading into the virtual soundsphere. n & i were browsing after parties and picking what we would attend and we saw “ben sims” was appearing at a party that he had not seen before. a few years ago he called me from seeing ben sims live and it was the hit of the weekend so naturally it piqued both of our interests. we looked closer and its actually being held, in second life. oh my. capacity: 70. i am not sure how i feel about this. isn’t demf virtual enough? its a techno-fest— heavily tech-mediated entertainment-fueled atmospheric virtual blips and bleeps and submersive bass. do we need a virtual experience beyond the real? well, maybe if you cannot actually BE there, but still, second life?

to boot, hello cheesy 90s rave flyer. haven’t we gotten any more sophisticated in the age of the hyperreal?

i was stopped in my tracks on the way back from the windhover reception tonight. i was crossing the court of carolinas from caldwell hall balancing pilfered cupcakes for my studiomates, a bag and umbrella but i had to put it all down and stand with a big goofy grin on my face and stare at the sky. a rainbow! it was so lovely. it was that rih and heavy amber half light, just before dusk and filtered through a storm fighting with the fading sun that provided the perfect conditions for an ethereal treat.

i have little to add to this photo from the BBC picture of the day gallery (published yesterday 4/9) other than to point out that the caption is really what caught my eye.

lawyers? really? is this what lawyers do from other countries when there is a disagreement? its worse than here … where i thought it had gotten pretty bad.

i think i busted someone watering their outdoor plants tonight on my ride home. i was pedaling up the long hill and saw someone in the bushes by the house that has the fake dog statue on their porch that always freaks me out when i am tired b/c i think its a real dog, a real large dog. anyway. so i catch this movement in the bushes out of the corner of my eye and i kind of go into “on guard” state, unsure at first of what’s going on. then i see they have a watering hose and i think, that’s odd, well maybe they just got home from work and this is when i do yard work. well as i pass, they kind of shrink back against the house and let off the water pressure. very suspicious. then i think, hey wait! they are suspicious! they are watering their yard against the ban policy! huh. not that the lone cyclist at 11 pm is going to say anything of note to anyone, but that just made it funnier that they hid from me anyway.

as an addendum: yes, the ban is still on and once a week lawn watering will not be allowed until falls lake is at 100% full. we are now at about 80%.

thesis
sometime
in the near future
i will pull each tiny post-it
off of the fore-edges
of each borrowed book
and return them to their places
on the shelves
and i will return
to the rest of my days
with the residue
of each hand
that touched my life here
and creased the corners
of this chapter in my story

a spot of light appeared on my newsprint pad as the sunset spilled through my studio window. a prism somewhere on the ledge filtered the beam and threw a ball of rainbow onto the page. i drew a ghost around it.
